Studio Lenca “Leave to Remain” at Carl Freedman Gallery
Catch this fantastic exhibition at the Carl Freedman Gallery
Showing now at the Carl Freedman Gallery in Margate: Jose Campos, aka Studio Lenca, shares his unique story of identity and resilience through creative experimentation in paint in an exhibition titled “Leave to Remain”
Studio Lenca was forced to flee El Salvador during the civil war, becoming one of many invisible child migrants in the USA, struggling to survive the day to day. He is currently based at Tracey Emin’s TKE studios in Margate.
In this colourful exhibition Studio Lenca boldly reclaims his narrative, exploring questions of masculinity, colonialism and boundaries. He gleefully crosses the artistic borders of rugs and frames, just as he has bodily crossed international ones.
The exhibition also sees a volcanic collaboration with the Kent Refugee Network, inviting viewers to participate in gigantic moving installations.
